How to use one-way exclusion funnels to remove rats without trapping them
As the name would lead you to believe, “one-way exclusion funnels” are funnels that allow the rat to
move in just one direction - out of your home. These are well known to be the one of the best methods
to removing rats from a property, either residential or commercial, if you don’t want to resort to using
lethal snap traps. Oh, and just for the record, we would NEVER recommend using poison.
One-way exclusion funnels are funnels which can be created at-home (with the right tutorial and materials), and the
aim of the game is to get those rats out, but prevent them form coming back in again. As you can probably imagine,
you will need to perform some repair works at the same time as inserting these funnels. If you don’t, the rats that
you are trying to get rid of will just keep coming back in again. You should use the one-way exclusion funnel (or device)
on the main hole that the rats seem to be using, sealing up the other holes at the same time. In the end, the rats will be
left with just the one way to get in and out of your home - where the funnel is - and eventually, you will have no rats left
in our home to try and get rid of.
In theory, it all makes sense and it should work. In practice, however, things aren’t always quite this easy. The one-way
funnels are easily made from mesh wire, for example, but you need to make sure you make just the right size funnel in order
for it to work. If the gap is too small at the end, the rats won’t be able to get out. If it is too big, the rat will be able
to get back in. You will also need to take into consideration that the rat could injure itself trying to move through the funnel,
and that goes against the point of trying humane one-way exclusions in the first place.
