Rat and mouse feces - what’s the difference?
When you have a rat or mouse infestation, you will want to keep away from the urine and feces they leave
behind as much as you can. The reason for this is because they often come with rather dangerous threats of
disease, that put not just your life in danger, but also the lives of your family members, kids and adults
alike, and even your pets.
At the same time, however, the mouse and rat feces can actually tell you a great deal about the animal. Rat poop is often discolored
if the rat has been eating poison, for example. If the rat poison is blue, green or orange, the rat is likely to have feces that is
also slightly tinged with that shape. It's a good way of figuring out whether or not the rat is eating the poison you have left,
although we would strongly recommend that you DO NOT use poison to get rid of both rat and mouse infestations.
At the same time, not only will the rat and mouse droppings help you to figure out whether or not the rodent has been poisoned
(because then it is likely to de in the depths of your home), but it can also help you to figure out what rodent you have in the
first place. This is vital information when it comes to buying traps, because traps designed for rats are larger than traps designed
for mice. The trap for one won’t always do the right job for the other. Rat traps are often too large to entirely capture a mouse,
leaving them roaming free or slightly maimed, which is actually worse.
Rat poop is much larger than mouse poop. About ten times larger to be exact. The larger rat feces pellet is about 2cm in length, whereas the
mouse pellet is only a couple of mm in length. They are slightly different shapes too, with the smaller mouse feces with pinched-off edges,
and the rat droppings being more curved in shape.
